The Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Health Equity is pleased to provide this list of curated links to reliable, free, and publicly accessible data sources. These resources cover geography, demographics, health statistics, and more, offering valuable insights into communities and factors influencing health outcomes, supporting informed research and equitable health initiatives statewide.

■ Virginia Open Data Portal:
Provides access to over 13.2k datasets and 32.4k total resources from 52 organizations all associated with the State of Virginia. Featured datasets include food bank data, EMS incidents, quality of life measures, traffic volume, community policing, and much more.
■ US Census Bureau – QuickFacts:
Provides statistics for all states and counties, and for cities and towns with a population of 5,000 or more.
■ US Census Bureau – My Community Explorer:
An equity tool to identify underserved communities across the United States.
■ CDC – Interactive Atlas of Heart Disease and Stroke:
Provides statistics for all states and counties related to mortality, prevalence, demographics and risk factors in the US.
■ CDC – FastStats:
Provides quick and easy access to selected statistics on a variety of health topics including diseases and conditions, health care and insurance, disability and risk factors, family life, injuries, life stages and populations, and reproductive health.
■ CDC – WONDER:
WONDER (Wide-ranging ONline Data for Epidemiologic Research) is an online database that utilizes a rich ad-hoc query system for the analysis of public health data. Data is provided in table, chart, and map format.
■ US Census Bureau – ACS Data Profiles:
Data Profiles provide the most frequently requested social, economic, housing, and demographic data from the American Community Survey (ACS) using 5-year estimates. Each of these four subject areas is a separate profile summarized for a single geographic area, both numbers and percent, to cover the most basic data on all topics.
■ GPS Coordinates:
Useful tool for quickly finding the GPS coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) for any address in the US.
■ HUD – Geospatial Data Storefront:
Provides for the discovery of HUD’s many geospatial datasets and interactive maps. Interactive maps are available for a wide-range of topics including community development programs and indicators, fair housing and equal opportunity, housing counseling, location affordability, rental assistance, and disaster response and recovery.
