{"id":257,"date":"2016-10-31T09:44:50","date_gmt":"2016-10-31T13:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apps.vdh.virginia.gov\/omhhe\/hoi\/?page_id=257"},"modified":"2016-10-31T10:11:11","modified_gmt":"2016-10-31T14:11:11","slug":"wellness-disparity-profile","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/apps.vdh.virginia.gov\/omhhe\/hoi\/wellness-disparity-profile","title":{"rendered":"Wellness Disparity Profile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Place Matters, Community Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Where you live has an impact on your opportunity to live a long and healthy life, but this has little to do with where the pin drops on the map. \u00a0Rather, it is the contours of each neighborhood\u2013it\u2019s DNA\u2013 that influences health. \u00a0Every community has strengths, even those facing the most challenges. \u00a0The Health Opportunity Index is designed to help residents identify which of the factors are supporting health opportunity in their communities and which may be holding them back. \u00a0Our main dashboards allow communities to examine the HOI\u2019s broad profiles\u2013the chromosomes\u2013that influence health. \u00a0Our Profile dashboards dive deep into the profiles and allow communities\u00a0to examine indicators\u2013the genes\u2013that may affect the opportunity to live a long and health life in each community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Wellness Disparity\u00a0Profile<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0HOI&#8217;s profiles were developed using statistical tools to identify related indicators. \u00a0Two of those indicators,\u00a0 Access to Care and Segregation, make up the Wellness Disparity Profile, a measure of the disparate access to services in a community. This profile demonstrates the direct influence\u00a0of social factors on the opportunity of all Virginians to live a long and healthy life.<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong>Access to Care Indicator<\/strong>: Whether community members have access to a primary care physician and the means to pay for care. It includes the proportion of uninsured residents and the number of physicians within 30 miles of the community.<br \/>\n2. <strong>Segregation Indicator<\/strong>: A measure of whether and how much people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds live together in diverse communities. It also varies significantly block by block and street by street within local health districts.
